We have been retained to search for a Chief Marketing Office for a leading specialist material manufacturer, who supply products over 6000 global science and industrial customers. The Chief Marketing Officer / VP Marketing / Marketing Director will lead a marketing function (currently 6) to develop and implement the revenue generation strategy.
They supply over 150k specialist catalogue products and develop bespoke solutions, that are often then supplied over several years. There are particular opportunities to improve top-of-funnel traffic; transform the eCommerce experience, product discovery, basket size & conversion journey and also use of data/insight to improve targeting, customer marketing and LTV.
They’re funded by high profile PE backers and are acquiring complimentary businesses along the way. This is a broad marketing leadership role with responsibility across brand, communications, lead generation, sales enablement, customer marketing, eCommerce growth, content marketing and customer data/segmentation.
Equity is part of the package and for the right person, there will be potential to take on more responsibility over time, particularly following future liquidity events. This is a hybrid role with 2DPW at their Cambridgeshire offices (possibly more for the initial weeks). There will be occasional global travel.
The Chief Marketing Officer / VP Marketing / Marketing Director will:
- Develop, implement, and manage the revenue generation strategy and digital marketing roadmap to drive growth through all channels with a particular focus on e-commerce.
- Define, measure, and report the performance of all paid marketing channels and wider campaigns. Assess against agreed ROI and KPI goals including customer acquisition and retention.
- Assess and develop the Brand for each Group company, positioning the business as a high quality, high service market leader.
- Develop a customer segmentation strategy from the ground up, using attribution modelling to ensure we reach the right audience and ultimately improving conversion.
- Monitor, prepare and report on marketing communications and sales activity keeping data and analytics at the core of every decision. Lead marketing analytics and ROI analysis for campaigns and channels.
- Develop, motivate and manage the current team of 6 to address acquisition, retention, analytics, content, CRM and cross departmental support. Assess the need for expansion in line with business needs.
- Partner with and leverage the product team & technical teams to create best in class content and product launches.
- Regularly report to the Board and actively participate in the wider success of the Group as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Undertaking frequent national and international travel where appropriate to attend meetings with prospective new customers together with site visits, exhibitions, and events.
Candidates for the Chief Marketing Officer / VP Marketing / Marketing Director role must have:
- Strong B2B marketing leadership experience in a B2B environment, across brand, communications, demand generation, sales enablement, etc
- Demonstrable experience of a scale-up journey, delivering profitable customer and revenue growth
- Experience of transactional eCommerce, whether in a B2B or B2C environment, from any product category
- Strong comfort with data, including leading customer segmentation, targeting, campaign optimisation, propensity modelling, etc.
- People management experience, managing, developing and coaching a marketing team (5+ people)
- First class communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
